We are excited to announce that Starbucks chose The Refuge Café to receive a $5,000 Starbucks Foundation Opportunity for Youth Grant for its vocational training program that teaches at-risk youth the basics of restaurant work and customer service.
“The Vocational Training program is 100 hours of vocational training, 10 hours per week for ten weeks,” said Steve Capobres, vice president of business development at Catholic Charities. “Participants shadow Refuge Café staff, gradually increasing the complexity of their duties each week. They are also taking part in bi-weekly life skills classes focused on budgeting, healthy eating habits, learning to cook and our general manager is helping them in their permanent job search. It’s a great program that is helping at risk youth in our community and we’re very appreciative of Starbucks’ support.”
Thank you, Starbucks Foundation!
